Welcome to our Open Hearth Kitchen, an original exhibit created when the Ontario County Historical Society first opened its museum in 1914. This exhibit is a 1914 interpretation of an early nineteenth century kitchen. Its design was inspired by illustrations of kitchens in Boston and by features found in early Canandaigua area homes during fieldwork conducted by members of the Board of Trustees. While some items are reproductions, many items were acquired from Canandaigua families and establishments at the time of its installation. Educational panels will engage you as you learn about early life in Ontario County and tools used day to day. Seek-and-find activities, video links, and hands-on items engage all ages!
