Planned Giving
Did you know you can use your IRA via Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) as a way to support Ontario County Historical Society?
Investors age 70 ½ and older can use distributions from their traditional IRAs (not employer sponsored plans) to make donations directly to qualified charities, such as the Ontario County Historical Society, even though the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) age now starts at 73. Such QCD distributions are not taxable. If you are in RMD territory, QCDs count toward your RMD. In this case, you can reduce your adjusted gross income (and taxable income) dollar-for-dollar by the total of QCDs in any one year.
Using QCDs for your charitable giving is particularly advantageous if you do not itemize deductions or if you do not need all or a portion of your RMD.
The QCD maximum for 2025 is $108,000 per taxpayer.
