Headlines Walking Tour: Hear All About It!

October 9
| 2:00 pm

Canandaigua has a long history of newspaper publishing. Across the 19th and 20th centuries, local newspapers played an important role in keeping the community up to date about what was going on. This was especially important when it came to major events that could impact the daily life of the average Canandaiguan, such as parades, strikes, fires, visits from politicians, or even criminal executions. Drawing on headlines and newspaper articles from the Ontario Repository and the Daily Messenger, this walking tour highlights events in Canandaigua at the places where they happened.

This 1-hour tour begins at the Canandaigua Inn Park, 23 N Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424, at the corner of Main Street and Ontario Street. The tour is offered rain or shine! Donations support Ontario County Historical Society.
