Lunch Time History Talk

November 14
| 12:00 pm
- 1:00 pm

“The Christ of West Lake Road” will be presented by Christine Farren, granddaughter of George and Anne Bigham, on whose former farmland the Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua was built. The hilltop – on which the Retreat House sits – all the way down to the Lake was a second home to Christine and her extended family.  As the second youngest granddaughter of the Bigham’s, she will share the history of the Christ the Redeemer statue that graces the hill below. The statue is an integral part of the recreational history of the Canandaigua Lake community and of the wider cultural heritage of the Canandaigua area. For the past 90 years, the statue has given those who pass by on West Lake Road moments of quiet, peaceful reflection.
