Photography captures moments frozen in time and leaves us with a rich, visual record of the past. From the first formal photos taken by trained photographers in the 1840s to the rise of amateur snapshots taken with inexpensive Kodak box cameras in the 1890s, people have used photography to record what is important to them. In this exhibit, you will find out about photographic processes, as well as the local men and women who devoted much of their lives to photography. Enjoy viewing some of the thousands of photos held in our collection and the selection of early cameras. Finally, take a picture of yourself in our “photo studio.”
