Welcome to A Taste of Wedding Traditions in Ontario County.

Weddings in all cultures are steeped in tradition, ceremony, and symbolism. Many families keep and cherish wedding dresses, suits, veils, hats, gifts, and other mementos to remember this rite of passage. Ontario County families were no different, as reflected in the large number of wedding-related items in the OCHS collection. Our collection holds over 350 wedding articles and archival items dating as early as 1790, and over 300 wedding photographs. Shown in this exhibit is a sampling of clothing, wedding gifts, purses, and other items, all given to OCHS by families to preserve and tell their wedding story.
